Dr. Paddy McCluskey is a graduate of the UBC School of Medicine and the UBC Family Medicine postgraduate program in Victoria and earned his Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine in 2008. He is a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, the College of Family Practice in Canada, and the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM). He is an Affiliate Clinical Instructor at the University of Victoria’s Island Medical Program and a Clinical Instructor for the Victoria Family Practice Residency Program. With a background in Human Performance (BSc 1992) and Exercise Physiology (MSc 1995), Dr. McCluskey’s professional interests encompass various aspects of Sport and Exercise Medicine, the medical care of endurance athletes and the prevention of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDS). He was a co-author on the IOC’s 2023 review of the REDs Clinical Assessment Tool and is part of a Canadian working group developing a Canadian best practices guidelines for optimizing iron in athletes. He is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer for the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific and Athletics Canada, as well as the Medical Lead for Triathlon Canada and in these roles has attended 3 Olympic Games and 7 world championships. He has been the Medical Director for the Victoria Marathon since 2007 and is currently a member of OTP’s Sport Medicine Advisory Council. Dr. McCluskey brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the medical care of athletes.
